Mennonite Central Committee (MCC)

Website: mcc.org

Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), a worldwide ministry of Anabaptist churches, responds to basic human needs and works for peace and justice in the name of Christ. As one of our four strategic directions at MCC is caring for God's creation and supporting communities harmed by climate change, climate advocacy is an integral part of our ongoing work. Together as MCC U.S. and MCC Canada, we have an active advocacy campaign called Climate Action For Peace, making specific asks to our federal governments around reducing emissions and funding adaptation and mitigation efforts around the world.

MCC Canada

At MCC Canada, we are active in the Climate Action For Peace campaign as well as various other climate-related initiatives throughout our constituency. Within the climate advocacy campaign, we are asking the Canadian government to create policies that mitigate the factors that cause climate change as well as increase funding for adaptations to the impacts of climate change. Beyond the climate advocacy campaign, MCC Canada has partnered with Kairos Canada in their climate justice initiative, For the Love of Creation, works with Indigenous neighbors, is a founding member of the Canadian Food Grains Bank, and works through provincial and regional advocacy initiatives for local and national policy change.

Get involved: Use our pre-made template to send a letter to the Ministers of International Development and the Environment and Climate Change to support stronger mitigation and adaptation responses to climate change.

MCC U.S.

At MCC U.S., we are active in the Climate Action For Peace campaign as well as various other regional climate-related initiatives throughout our constituency. Currently, our domestic advocacy work centers around critical minerals, as well as right relationships with Indigenous communities who are often located near the mining sites. Regionally, MCC Central States also works closely with Indigenous neighbors. MCC Great Lakes offers the Churches Engaging on Climate Change (CECC) initiative for congregations to address climate change in their own communities.
